  • At Sakks Menswear, we go beyond basic measurements—considering details like your shoulder slope, arm position, and posture to create a garment that’s perfectly balanced for your body’s shape.
  • We use latest technology to help create something that is truly unique to you.
  • Add the personal touch with an inner monogram, contrasting buttonholes, horn buttons, customise every detail and so much more – it is all part of the Sakks Menswear Made-to-Measure service.
  • The price of the garment depends on the fabric selected by you. We only use pure wool, cashmere, cotton & silk. No polyester mixes.

The Process

Creating a suit at Sakks Menswear is a collaborative process between you and our expert tailors. From our showroom in Shamrock Quay, we guide you through every detail to ensure your garment is as unique as your signature.

Step 1: The Initial Consultation & Design

Your journey begins with a 60-minute appointment. We discuss the occasion—be it a wedding, raceday, or business—and help you navigate our curated selection of over 100 luxury fabrics from the world’s finest mills. You’ll choose everything from the lapel style and pocket placement to the buttons and personalised interior lining.

Step 2: Precision Measuring

Measurements are about more than just numbers; they are about posture and movement. Our tailors take up to 30 unique measurements to create your personal profile. We also utilize “fitting blocks” to help you visualize the final silhouette and ensure the comfort meets your exact preferences.

Step 3: The First Fitting (4–6 Weeks Later)

Once your suit has been crafted, you’ll return to our Southampton showroom for your first fitting. This is where we “fine-tune” the garment. We check the drape, the break of the trouser, and the sleeve length, pinning any minor adjustments needed to achieve our signature Sakks fit.

Step 4: Final Polish & Collection

After our in-house tailoring team completes any refinements (usually within 7 days), you’ll come in for a final check. Once you and your tailor are 100% satisfied, your suit is ready to take home. We even keep your measurements on file to make future orders as simple as a phone call.

Frequently Asked Questions about Made-to-Measure

How much does a made-to-measure suit cost?

At Sakks Menswear, our made-to-measure suits typically start from £650. The final price depends on your choice of fabric and specific customisations. We work with a variety of premium mills, allowing us to offer options that suit different budgets while maintaining our high standard of craftsmanship.

How long does the process take?

The standard lead time for a custom suit in our Southampton showroom is 4 to 6 weeks. This allows for the initial design, precision crafting, and your first fitting. If you have a last-minute event, we do offer an Express Service that can reduce this timeline—please contact us as soon as possible to check availability.

Do I need to book an appointment?

While we do welcome walk-ins at our Shamrock Quay location, we strongly recommend booking an appointment for made-to-measure services. This ensures one of our expert tailors is dedicated solely to you for the full hour required for measuring and fabric selection.

What is the difference between Made-to-Measure and Bespoke?

Made-to-Measure starts with a pre-existing “block” pattern that is expertly adjusted to your specific measurements and posture. Bespoke involves creating a unique paper pattern from scratch. For 95% of our clients, our made-to-measure service provides the “perfect fit” and luxury finish they desire at a more accessible price point and faster turnaround.

Can you accommodate specific wedding themes or colours?

Absolutely. We have access to over 100 luxury fabrics and hundreds of lining options. Whether you are matching a specific bridesmaid colour or a “Goodwood Revival” vintage theme, we can customise everything from the button thread to the under-collar felt to ensure a perfect match.
